Leftover Liquor Ideas
After hosting a big Christmas bash with your family and friends, you’re bound to have plenty of leftover alcohol. Most guests hate to arrive empty-handed to a party and in most cases, they’ll also leave you with a table filled with half-empty bottles and unopened gifts of wines and spirits. Here are our favourite ways to give new life to excess beverages.
Turn spare shiraz into summer sangria
Wines are the most versatile of alcohol and is an important ingredient for many dishes. However, if you don’t feel like cooking after your night of partying, use it to make sangria. Mix Merlot or Shiraz with sliced lemons, oranges, a dash of brandy (we’re sure there’ll be a bottle somewhere) and some club soda for a refreshing summer drink.
Bring bourbon to the BBQ
Turn remaining whiskey or bourbon into a mouth-watering marinade for your next barbie by mixing the liquors with brown sugar and olive oil. The rich aroma of whiskey will enhance grilled meat and give it more flavour. Don’t forget to wash it down with these drinks for your Christmas BBQ .
Keep champagne for the New Year countdown
Don’t worry if you have extra champagne, New Year’s Eve is right around the corner. Simply store your champagne with a bottle stopper which will help it remain fresh and bubbly. Pick up a bottle stopper at our First Choice stores. Keep it in the fridge so it’ll be chilled and ready to drink! Here are more tips on how to celebrate with champagne.
Chill out with some Baileys ice-cream
Beat the heat by making some Baileys ice-cream. Just melt chocolate with milk in the microwave (heat and stir in 30 second bursts), then pour the mixture along with some Baileys and rum into a blender. Add in some bananas and mix until it’s smooth. Store it in a covered container for at least 4 hours and enjoy your homemade ice-cream!
Discover the various uses for vodka
Besides whipping up delightful cocktails like Cosmopolitans and Martinis, you can also use vodka as a cleaning agent and disinfectant. Mix vodka and water to turn it into glass cleaner, or pour a little on fabrics to remove stains. Perfect for your post-party clean up.
